Free Heat Pump Water Heater
Through the New Buildings Institute, we’re excited to offer businesses a free, energy efficient Heat Pump Water Heater. Water Heaters are expensive and if yours is not efficient and nearing the end of its life, you should apply!
The Details Appliance maker A. O. Smith is upgrading their commercial CHP-120 Heat Pump Water Heater and has a new prototype they'd like us to test in the field.
We have 2-3 slots total for this free install.
If the CHP-120 is too big for your space, they can do a mini-split SANCO2 Heat Pump Water Heater instead.
They are looking to install by end of the 2025 year.
Requirements Applicants must be actively enrolled in the Green Business certification program and able to provide photos of the existing water heater, the nameplate, and the surrounding room (so we can gauge cubic air volume.
Provide access to site for metering equipment installation, maintenance, and removal
Copies of your energy and water bills for anonymous analysis and reporting
Willingness from staff/occupants to discuss hot water experience e.g., consistency of receiving hot water, any cold-water events

ECOSLO will confirm eligibility and connect business to the installer.
A.O. Smith will provide the Heat Pump Water Heater and installation. After one year of monitoring, they will replace the prototype with a commercially available model. The entire product and service is free of charge.
This program focuses on helping a business achieve or go above and beyond the requirements of the Energy, Lighting and Equipment measures of the Green Biz Tracker, specifically for reducing energy, lowering energy bills, and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
